Spotlight On: Black Hoof Brewing

Black Hoof Brewing Company – Leesburg, Virginia

The Interview:

The Beer: Sean and Luke visited Black Hoof Brewing company in downtown Leesburg, VA to try their traditional German beers. Sean tried the Forest Edge Altbier and Luke tried the Island Pond Hefeweizen.

The Forest Edge Altbier is an easy drinking darker German beer. It has a well balanced taste with German Spalt hops and strong malt backbone.

The Island Pond Hefeweizen is a traditional take on the popular German wheat beer style. Island Pond pours a hazy golden color with a light crisp mouth feel. Predominate flavors include the classic banana as well as background notes of baking spices and clove.

The Atmosphere: Black Hoof Brewing is located in the heart of downtown Leesburg on King Street. Black Hoof specializes in traditional German style beers. The taproom has plenty of indoor seating as well as some outdoor bar height table options. The lighting inside the brewery was particularly welcoming. The brewery has also spent time perfecting the acoustics inside. It does not have the loud “echo-y” sound that many taprooms do.
